South Korea plans to invest -a converted- USD 9.8 billion container port at Jinhae, near Busan New Port (location). The new facilities, able to serve ships of up to 30,000 TEU, would offer around 18 million TEU of extra capacity and allow Busan to almost double its throughput by 2045. The first phase, comprising nine berths and capable of handling more than 6 million TEU by 2032, would ideally be run by a single operator. Ultimately, there will be twenty-one berths.
