Carrier’s financial performance overview

Of the carriers posting financial results during the first half of 2025, only one saw revenue reduce, that being Yang Ming (as converted from the original Taiwan dollar denomination). Whilst Hapag-Lloyd’s revenues held station all the others managed clearly or even substantial improvement. However, none made a loss with RCL’s USD 125 million being the smallest profit, which considering its regional trading nature, is not a surprise. Cosco Shipping Holdings had the largest net profit of USD 2.8 billion with CMA CGM, Evergreen and Maersk also being billionaires in this regard.

Eight carriers published sufficient information to be able to provide financial figures on a TEU basis. ZIM had the highest average revenue per TEU, just like last year, with this time its rate being USD 1,981. The principally regional carriers RCL and SITC both improved their revenue/TEU averages, but these were still below USD 1,000. The average across all eight was USD 1,313 which was USD 43 better than at the halfway point of 2024. For operating profit, ZIM was again top (and again for the second time in a row) at USD 681 per TEU. No carrier was below the USD 100 level. The average was USD 317 (up USD 24/TEU, year-on-year).
