Posidonia 2026 to focus on Artificial Intelligence in shipping

All new Artificial Intelligence (AI) services and products for the shipping industry will be showcased at this year’s Posidonia exhibition, reflecting the sector’s gradual adoption of AI capabilities into daily operations.

Traditionally conservative in embracing new technologies, the maritime industry is steadily increasing its use of AI, according to recent Posidonia research findings.

Ahead of Posidonia 2026, taking place on June 1–5 at the Metropolitan Expo, organizers have observed a dynamic dialogue between exhibitors and industry stakeholders around AI-based solutions, ranging from predictive maintenance and fuel optimization to digital compliance and data analytics. Overall, however, the industry maintains a balanced approach: shipping is neither rushing to adopt AI nor standing still.

“AI is clearly transitioning from theoretical discussion to operational application,” said Theodoros Vokos, CEO of Posidonia Exhibitions. “Over 40 exhibitors in Posidonia 2026 shared their perspectives on AI adoption within their businesses as part of our research, and what we observe is not blind adoption but a structured experimentation process. The shipping sector evaluates AI through the lens of safety, compliance, and return on investment,” he added.

“In a period marked by intense geopolitical turbulence, shipping is already preparing for the next day. Posidonia 2026 will be more relevant than ever, covering a wide range of topics and developments, including the implications of the conflict in Iran. As history has shown, the maritime sector responds faster than many others to challenges, and this is reflected in this year’s AI adoption survey,” Vokos added. The survey revealed three distinct approaches: proactive adopters integrating AI into products and services, companies applying AI selectively for internal optimization, and others maintaining a cautious stance while observing developments.
